Yesterday was the 1st Grade Awards Ceremony. Brother got A honor roll for the year, All E's in Citizenship for the year, good attendance and perfect punctuality. The little first graders were so cute walking up to get their awards.
Every child got one, and this cracked me up. The kids who didn't have good attendance, good grades, or good citizenship got an award called "shining star" which is teacher speak for "thank goodness you will be in someone else's class next year" and those children were very excited to receive their award. Many said "yes!" when it was called next to their name :) I was glad my boy didn't get one but happy that everyone felt good, if just for a moment. (and if I had a soapbox I might step up on it and say how real self esteem comes from real accomplishments but they are just 6 so I will be quiet)

Yay Ethan!
Yay for those "shining stars";)
Way to go E.
Congratulations to E.
I'd be right up there with you on that soapbox. My old public school asst principal had a real thing about making ALL kids feel special and I always felt that made light of the accomplishments of the truly good, hard-working kids! Congrats, E!!
