crock pot bust

This morning the kids headed out into the dark, and the rain, to catch the bus. A far cry from last weeks scamper in the morning sun, wearing shorts and kicking rocks on the way. Texas weather! Got to love it...or if you don't just wait a minute it'll change :)

This week I thought I'd try "crock pot week". So far it's been a bust. Sunday I made chocolate pudding cake. The recipe said to cook it on low for 4 hours so I put it in before church and when we came home we were greeted by a cloud of smoke and a brick of burnt chocolate :( Very sad. Lucky for us Rob and Tori came over after dinner to visit cowboy cookies in hand, and they saved dessert for us!
Monday I made beef stroganoff in the crock pot. No one liked it. I thought it was okay but the meat I chose was a cheaper cut, I thought the long cooking of the crock would save it but it really didn't. It was okay, just not great.
Last night I made apple bean bake, which I really liked, but I don't think any one else did.
So now I'm declaring crock pot week over.

Monday Beloved took the kids to gymnastics and the big girls and I headed out to search for a prom dress for S. We found one that J and I loved on her, she didn't love it, lost patience with looking and was kind of grouchy. She's not a shopper that one.

I think I might be done subbing. I am not sure. Lucy has been throwing the BIGGEST fits when I go and really the only reason I thought it would work out, and in fact has so far, is because I thought she'd love going to play with friends. Which she did, until a month ago. Now, not so much. It doesn't seem fair to me to make her so miserable when I don't have to do it. Also Beloved wants me to be home to keep the house in order, which is such a fun task...but does need to be done, especially right now while we are trying to sell it. Not because he's Archie Bunker, but because I am most able (well, he's a good cleaner too, that's not what I am saying), and come on...I make maybe 60 dollars a day and he, well he makes more and we're trying to sell the house for a bit more so it makes sense that I do it. So I don't know. I'm not ready to say I'm done...but I am thinking about it. I am hoping she'll still want to go and play if it's not so long for her. We'll see.

Counting down to spring break! Can't wait!!

I feel your pain. I definitely would not work if I didn't have to. So far I have been taking Theron to work with me, but with my new job the hours are so long and I'm so involved that all he does is watch TV. Not good. So we are looking into "preschool" 3 days a week. I think he's ready, but I'm afraid that he will get sick of it, too, and throw his own fits :( Plus I will miss just having him with me.

I can't wait for spring break either!

As much as I love and adore my crockpot, I'm just not sure that I'd be able to use it every day for a week. It always seems to make so much food that we use as leftovers disguised as something else, that I'd end up with a ton of extra food that might get wasted.

My sister made macaroni & cheese in the crockpot for in between my grandmother's viewing. If you are interested, I can email you the recipe. It was pretty tasty. (It burned a little bit on the bottom and we were ALL picking at the burnt pieces. Like I said, it was pretty tasty.)

Here's my favorite crock pot recipe... Frozen chicken in the pot, set on low for 6 hours. That's it. If I want it to be "Mexican" I add taco seasoning and shred it at the end of the cooking time and serve it in enchiladas or tacos or on salad or whatever. I did it on Monday with some cream of chicken soup and we had Hawaiian haystacks out of it.

As far as subbing goes, I don't think you should sweat it--take a break for a month or so and let Lu get used to the idea you are home now. Once she is readjusted, start back again slowly. I'm sure you've already thought of this, but she probably feels stress (subconsciously) over all the changes that are happening in your home and needs that anchor right now. Your presence will reassure her everything is okay and then you can move on.

Sorry about your crock pot mishaps. I do a lot of what Shauna does -- shredded chicken with variations. One thing to think of is that there are different sizes of crockpots and sometimes different recipes are better suited for different things. Maybe your chocolate pudding cake was meant to be in a smaller crockpot?

crockpot cooking is so hit-and-miss. My favorite thing to make it it is good ol' beans. So easy. ARe you sure your week is over? I mean, these are super tasty and easy. I make them all the time and I have never heard of it being a --miss. :)
Shopping- used to love it- now with kids... its a different story. Amelia loves it and asks to go shopping all the time. Good luck with the hunt!
Can you stop subbing and then pick it up again later? I think maybe a little break with L having some mommy time again will help. Who knows, maybe after a few days she will want to scamper off to a friends house and you'll be good to go.

I know exactly how you feel about shopping for a dress. Kinz is a great shopper, until it's for a formal. The last two we found at penneys for a great price. Good luck!!

Sorry about the crock bust. Thanks for dinner tonight. It was really fun.

As far as subbing, you are always so smart in doing what is best for the kids always first! :)

Sorry the crockpot week didn't work out.

Good luck with the prom dress shopping. Hope she finds something she likes.

Oh don't feel bad...you should stay home and be a mommy and the governor of your home.
All women should be able to do that!
They should have left women in the kitchen barefoot and cooking!
I rather cook and clean any time than work outside of the home.
I get along with the vacum cleaner much better than with people in the work force.
Give up subing! It's just baby sitting and has no real rewards.
Amen
