Works for Me ~ Sunday dinner

Last year when G was born Nana came to stay with us. She cooked Sunday dinner in this roaster. I was so impressed, I had never seen a roaster used and I wondered how I had lived without it all these years. It became my newest works for me. On Sunday before church I put in a frozen roast, potatoes and carrots and some onions and water. It cooks while we're gone and we walk into the house starving and things smell so wonderful. It's the best. If I put a jell-o in the fridge in the morning then it's a great Sunday!

*Right now we're on the 9am schedule so I actually put the food in when we get home and it cooks while we nap/watch movies or play games. It's SO easy and so delicious. When we're on the afternoon schedule it's even better!

I have also used it for turkey, ham, and other dishes but our Sunday Roast is a real "works for me!"

Do you really use a frozen roast? I love roast on Sunday, but I am so bad about getting it thawed in time. We usually end up eating it on Monday or Tuesday by the time I rember to take it out and actually thaw it! lol If I could cook it frozen that would solve my dilemma.
I remember my mom having one of those big black roasters, but never knew what it was for. Thanks for the tip!

Amanda I have made a zillion roasts in my life time and I 'm here to say that you girls dont have to thaw it. You can put a frozen roast in the oven on 350'. Add a little water to cover the bottom of the pan, throw in seasonings and stick it in. It takes about three hours when its frozen. I put it in the oven when I leave at nine on sunday nd when I get home at 12:30 it's perfect.

I never knew you could use that one top of the stove--or is that just where you took the picture? I have one and never use it...but now I think I'll have to get it out!

you must put it in the oven. Bake for 3 hours on 350.

My mom has one of these. I always called it the "turkey pan." I never took the next mental step which would be that... yeah, cooks turkey... SO IT CAN COOK OTHER LARGE MEATS,TOO! (Duh.) I'm a dork. The most exciting thing for me? YOU CAN COOK A FROZEN ROAST! ::faints:: My life is complete! ;o)

You know, I got one of these for Christmas from my grandma and I don't really know what to do with it. Maybe I should give it a whirl.

Thanks! I'll definitely have to try this idea.

This is a really good make-ahead idea, which is what I'm trying to start doing on Sundays... hate the making a big meal thing and having to do it all that day, when I just want to hang out. I'll have to head over to the Wal-Marshay and see how much a roaster will set me back. :)

Oh - THAT's what those things are used for! Egads. I really need to improve my cooking skills. I thought you used those for shrimp boils. At least that's what my parents always did...!

I'm headed off to Target this afternoon to buy a few WFM gadgets I've picked up today. I most definitely will look for a roaster. Although I might also buy some shrimp for a boil tonight... :)

Are you serious??? I had no idea, I'm checking out prices for this sucker too!! I love Works for me day!!! Bless you for giving the time and temperature, I have a tendency to make a day of it when we go to church, would not have been good if I came back home 7 hours later! ha ha I'll let you know how it goes!

This is brilliant!! Thanks for the great tip. I'll be sure to tell my family who they have to thank on Sunday when we're NOT having leftovers!

You know, my mom has a roaster and we used to use it for cooking the Thanksgiving turkey, but I've never used it for anything else. I wonder if I can con my mom into giving up her roaster to me. I don't think she uses it much anymore! :) Thanks for the tip!

I've posted a WFMW (alternate use for a pot rack) tip as well. Stop by and take a peek. :)

Wow. Such a simple solution for the starving family on Sundays--one could even put in a couple of roasts and be prepared for company!

I've got to do this!
