survey says:

at what age is a boy old enough for his first pocket knife?

Brother has been begging for one since his friend Blaine has one, it's shot to the top of his wish list and he wants it more each day. But I have always thought 8 was a good age...not 5. What do you think?

DS #1 had to wait until he was 8 but for some unknown reason DS #2 coaxed his father into getting him one when he was 6! He wasn't responsible and I ended up hiding it from him. However, I'm sure E is more responsible than my H.

FYI: Once he enters cub scouts he will learn about knife safety:)

I think T got his first when he was 6 or 7. We had to set lots and lots of rules, and he's been very responsible with them. S has never asked for one yet and I'm glad cause I'm not sure if I'd let him have one. I guess it depends on the kid and how responsible you think he is.

I don't know if I'd give a 5 y.o. a knife. I might let him use one under close supervision, but I'd wait till he was older before he had one of his own. Of course, my two haven't asked for one yet. :o) Just my opinion, of course.

I think 8. I would let him use one under my supervision now though, to learn to whittle. He needs a little toolset to screw and hammer stuff till his little hands get used to it.
